With his 50th birthday coming up tomorrow, President Obama told NPR a few weeks ago that all he wished for was a deal on the debt ceiling and maybe a burger. And he got both! That pesky debt thing is finally over, so President Obama did what fun bosses do — he took took some of his economic staffers out for an hourlong lunch this afternoon at Good Stuff Eatery.
Though owner Spike Mendelsohn is out of town for a charity function, his team tells Eater that the President ordered a plain old cheddar cheeseburger. So no, guys, disappointingly he did not order Good Stuff's President Obama burger that comes topped with bacon, onion marmalade, roquefort cheese and horseradish mayo. Meanwhile, White House pool reports reveal that POTUS also had fries, milkshakes for the table and — before you get all calorie-county — a salad. He reportedly offered one of the milkshakes to an 11-year-old boy, too, saying, "I guarantee this table isn't going to drink them all." There was, of course, also plenty of hand-shaking and baby-kissing, as a crowd developed the way crowds tend to do whenever the President goes anywhere.
It has been well-documented that the President and First Lady love burgers. Between them, they've been to Five Guys, Ray's Hell Burger, Shake Shack and Good Stuff Eatery, but with this visit the latter is easily pulling away with the win. The next question: Will one of them visit Bobby's Burger Palace when it opens this month?
