Yesterday was First Lady Michelle Obama's 48th birthday and so last night the Obamas continued their tradition of birthday dinners at Washington restaurants, this time with a visit to BLT Steak. And maybe it's time to just call it that BLT Steak is Michelle Obama's favorite DC restaurant? She's already a regular — she was caught there when Washington Capital Alex Ovechkin tweeted out a photo with her — and general manager Troy Bock told Eater in November that she comes in "at least once every other" month with friends or staffers. And now it joins the likes of The Source, Restaurant Nora and Equinox as a special occasion choice.
So the big joke here is whether the Obamas ordered any of chef Victor Albisu's political-themed burgers, such as the Obama Burger, the 1% Burger or the 99% burger? Obviously not, even though there is indeed well-documented Obama burger love.
In a very thorough report, Obama Foodorama notes that they had steak and their table of 12 shared french fries, mashed potatoes, caramelized Brussel sprouts with bacon, creamed spinach, and hen of the woods mushrooms. Naturally, they also had BLT Steak's signature popovers and the restaurant served the First Lady a red velvet cake.
