Prince of Petworth floats a hell of a rumor this afternoon, writing, "I hear Shake Shack is gonna be moving into the cafe space of the spy museum at the corner of 9th and F St, NW in Penn Quarter." Which would be excellent news for anyone living or working in the vicinity of Penn Quarter. And a museum would certainly be an interesting location for the chain that just opened its largest location ever in Florida. PoP doesn't reveal his sourcing, but Eater reached out to a rep for Shake Shack who does not confirm or deny the rumor:
As you can imagine, rumors often circulate about our potential openings. We have openly expressed our intention to bring Shake Shack to compelling sites in great neighborhoods. We have decided not to comment on any of these rumors until we have something concrete to share.
So that's the standard Shake Shack response to any rumored new location anywhere. Meanwhile, a rep for the International Spy Museum punts the question to real estate developer Douglas Development, which is apparently leasing the cafe space — and, noted, does count Shake Shack's Dupont location among their retail tenants. As always, will update if there's anything more to this rumor. But so far there's what's NOT happening.
