Jamaican Joe's is officially open in Adams Morgan today — with a big grand reopening party tomorrow featuring The Wailers — and it has got itself an interesting backstory. As noted earlier this week, the restaurant is opening up in the short-lived Bistro 18 space in Adams Morgan. But it turns out that this is not a second location for the restaurant, which has a storefront on U Street. Actually, that location shuttered in September — less a month after it opened — citing a "partnership disagreement." Partnership disagreement indeed. The restaurant's owners aired their dirty laundry on their Facebook page:
"We only want our customers to receive the best and when the quality of our service to them is compromised due to partners who don't care because it's not their brand or their name on the line, it's time to move!"
Anyway, a rep confirms that Jamaican Joe's is open today and will host a grand reopening party tomorrow that will also be a celebration of this weekend's Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial dedication. Starting at 6 p.m., they're going to have performances by The Wailers, Ayanna Gregory and Crews International. Should be a pretty crazy kickoff to the restaurant's new digs.
