In what is by far the most enticing of the three zillion Halloween-related press releases to come in over the Eaterwire, America Eats Tavern has announced that it will host a costume party/competition on Monday evening. At stake? Oh, only a complimentary dinner for two at Minibar.
Yes, you read that correctly. Dress up as an American historical figure and the restaurant's bartenders will award the very best costume-wearer dinner two seats at Minibar. And let's be clear here: the tasting menu is included in the prize. That's a $300 total value, not including booze and gratuity.
Considering how nearly impossible it is to even get reservations at the six-seat José Andrés restaurant — and how pricey the meal is when you do — you would be well-advised to dust off those old Amelia Earhart and George Washington costumes. The party begins at 8 p.m. Halloween day on the first floor of the restaurant. It's undetermined whether Andrés himself will be on hand for the festivities, but there will also be cocktails by the name of Satan's Whiskers and El Diablo in which you will be drowning your sorrows should you lose the contest.
