Today the Washington Post examines the phenomenon of people who dine alone at high-end restaurants and entertain themselves with smartphones. Chefs and restaurateurs such as Ashok Bajaj, Cathal Armstrong and RJ Cooper comment on the trend — and some admit to being culprits themselves. CityZen chef Eric Ziebold explains his philosophy: "If you’re going to keep typing and that’s more important than what you’re eating, then what we’re doing is lost on you anyway. The reality of today’s attention span is some people need constant stimuli." And since CityZen is not one to deny your needs, the restaurant even offers its solo diners use of an iPad. [WaPo]
