Someone Actually Bought Serendipity 3's $1,000 Sundae

New, 7 comments

When pizza and an ice cream cake just won't do for your child's birthday party, probably the only other option is the $1,000 ice cream sundae at Serendipity 3. The shop — which opened its doors in Georgetown in May — sold its very first Golden Opulence Sundae this past weekend. The occasion at hand? A birthday party for a 12-year-old boy and nine of his friends. Parents, this means that no birthday party you throw for your child will ever be good enough unless there is a ridiculously priced dessert involved.

For what it's worth, the sundae consists of Madagascar vanilla covered in 23K gold leaf and drizzled with very expensive chocolate and other things that are worth more than anything edible should be. It also comes served in a Baccarat crystal goblet, which you get to keep.
