Terrible news from over the weekend: an early Sunday morning fight at the Dupont Circle location of Heritage India led to the shooting death of a 34-year-old Maryland man. Two other men were also shot and injured, while three men were stabbed. According to the Washington Post, all this went down at approximately 2:45 a.m. just outside of the restaurant after a fight that began inside was forced to the streets. The fight seems to have initially involved people kicking and stomping each other on the sidewalk, then escalating. One of the stabbing victims was found inside of the restaurant.
Police chief Cathy L. Lanier closed the Dupont Circle restaurant as of Sunday morning "for a period not to exceed 96 hours" with a notice that reports the “continued operation of this establishment would present an imminent danger to the health, safety and welfare of the public." The Post also has an interview with one of the shooting victims, who says he was not involved in the initial altercation. Sad news all around.
