Over the weekend, a real estate group launched a crowdsourcing website called Popularise, which essentially allows the public the vote on what concept (out of several bidders) they would like to see going into vacant buildings across DC. And, naturally, many of these potential concepts are restaurants.
There aren't a whole lot of bidders yet, but one interesting prospective tenant for an H Street NE storefront is RedRocks Pizzeria, which would be the restaurant's third location following Columbia Heights and Old Town Alexandria. They are bribing would-be voters with the promise of house-made bagels should this particular location come into being.
The only other location up for grabs here is one in Columbia Heights — the exact space where an Italian restaurant named Maple announced its presence last month. Apparently, the restaurant will still be named Maple, but now it's up to the voters to decide whether it will feature paninis, bruschetta or something else. Because it's always a good idea to go into business without a plan?
