In July, the folks behind the Mighty Pint announced their intentions to open an Irish pub aptly named Irish Whiskey on 19th Street in the old Porter's space. Though at the time they were targeting a fall opening, word now comes via press release that the bar will open in early January. And what will that bring with it?
Well, there will be more than 50 brands of whiskey, more than 80 beers and a "members-only whiskey club" if you want to get real serious about your whiskey drinking. They're also going to be offering whiskey pairings with a number of menu items, which are all chef Sean McIntosh's plays on Irish classics — like corned beef and cabbage spring rolls with a mustard crème fraîche or filet mignon with Irish cheddar potato and Jameson Irish whiskey cream sauce. So, you know, just a smidge Irish gimmicky.
They'll be serving lunch and dinner, as well as brunch on both weekend days. And the decor — designed by the same firm that worked on Lincoln, Sax, the Hank's Oyster Bar expansion and more — apparently features a whole lot of "barrels, brass, patterns and plaid." So there will be no doubt that this place named Irish Whiskey is, in fact, an ode to Ireland.
