Alexandria's Evening Star Café reopens tomorrow evening following a monthlong renovation project — now with a brand new chef in Jim Jeffords, a stronger southern accent on the menu, new decor that aims to channel a 1950s diner and even a brand new beer system that features taps installed into the front of vintage 1950s refrigerators. Since this restaurant is a member of the Neighborhood Restaurant Group, which employs well-known beer expert Greg Engert, there will be 19 beers on tap, one on cask and 30 craft brews by the bottle — available also in the lounge upstairs that will open sometime in the next several weeks.
As for the menu itself, a press release indicates that there will be things like "buttermilk fried chicken with braised collards, boiled peanuts, sunchoke mash, and red eye gravy; and molasses glazed duck breast with dirty rice." There's also going to be a bar menu with things like fried koolaid pickles. And, of course, there will be pastry chef Tiffany MacIsaac's desserts available here. The idea is to open on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., so please plan accordingly.
