Proof's Haidar Karoum beat both momentum and home court advantage last night to win Ba Bay's Banh Mi Throwdown. Karoum, also behind the kitchen at Estadio, won with liver mousse, head cheese, pork shank terrine, pork roll, five spice roasted pork shoulder, cucumber, pickled carrot & daikon, jalepeno, cilantro and banh mi mayo on a housemade ciabatta roll. He faced some stiff competition from the five other restaurants participating in the charity event — Scott Drewno of The Source had all the momentum (and all the exhaustion) from his Cochon555 win the previous evening, while Ba Bay's own Nick Sharpe was the favorite of many in the crowd.
Proceeds from the Banh Mi Throwdown will benefit Taste of the Nation and Share Our Strength's efforts to fight childhood hunger. The DC event will take place April 4, and apparently tickets are selling fast, so get going.
