Andres, Armstrong, Monis, Pastan And More Nominated for 2011 James Beard Awards

Today out in Portland, the James Beard Foundation announced the final list of nominees for the 2011 James Beard Awards. DC did well in individual chef categories and on the journalism side, though none of the restaurants from the awards' longlist made the jump to the shortlist. The winners will be announced on May 9 at an awards show and gala to be held in New York City.

Not too surprisingly, José Andrés was nominated yet again for the high-profile Outstanding Chef award thanks to his work at minibar. He's joined in the category by Gary Danko, Suzanne Goin, Paul Kahan, Charles Phan. But Andrés is also up for another award, kinda: 60 Minutes snagged a nomination for a segment it did with the minibar chef.

DC-area chefs dominated the Best Chef Mid-Atlantic category, nabbing three of five nominations: Cathal Armstrong (Restaurant Eve), Johnny Monis (Komi) and Peter Pastan (Obelisk), with the two remaining nominations going to Hoboken's Maricel Presilla and Philly's Michael Solomonov.
