In further proof of this week's news that 2011 is the year of the barbecue, John Fischer of Baby Blues BBQ confirms that the LA-based joint is seriously considering an expansion to our nation's capital. Though they're still trying to narrow down the list of markets for the next expansion, Fischer says DC is definitely on that list.
Baby Blues made its first East Coast expansion last fall when it opened in Philadelphia, the familial home of owner Danny Fischer. Now John Fischer, manager of the Philly outpost, says the barbecue joint is trying to build an empire: "We're looking to put Baby Blues up the entire East Coast." And investors, he adds, are eager to get in on it. Other East Coast markets in the mix include South Jersey, Cape May and Rehoboth, and Baby Blues is also considering expanding its West Coast reach to Redondo Beach and Maui.
While Baby Blues currently serves as caterer to the Philadelphia Phillies, Fischer says they've also talked to Nationals Park about how they might cooperate should the restaurant make the jump to DC. No decision will be made for a couple of months, but, hey — fingers crossed?
