This Sunday (May 15), about 25 amateur chefs will convene at the Rock and Roll Hotel to put their own twist on the classic taco. The Food Experiments, a nationally touring culinary competition, has declared the DC leg of their cook-off tour to be taco territory — they previously experimented with brunch in New Orleans and pork in Austin. Home chefs will have free rein to create any kind of crazy taco combo they like, whether it be sweet or savory, and winners will go on to Brooklyn in the fall to compete for a national title. Attendees will have a chance to sample the tacos and vote on their favorites, alongside a judging panel (that, full disclosure, includes your Eater editor), while a portion of the proceeds are going to support the Capital Area Food Bank.
Tickets are still available online, but we like you and we just so happen to have one pair of tickets to give away to a lucky reader. Just send us an email describing your perfect taco with "DC Taco Experiments" in the subject head, and we'll select a winner on Friday morning.
