Welcome to the Plywood Report, where we fill you in on what's coming up in food. See anything happening in your neighborhood? Let us know.
ADAMS MORGAN—DCist reports that 18th Street's Jack Rose will open with its 52-foot bar and Scotch room definitely by June 1 and possibly earlier. [DCist]
ADAMS MORGAN—Meanwhile, Prince of Petworth checks in on the progress of the old Straits of Malaya space set to be taken over by Zabb Asian Restaurant. A logo is up in the windows and PoP tracks down a menu to Zabb's sister restaurant in Manassas. [PoP]
ROCKVILLE—The Washingtonian has some details about Cava's forthcoming Italian venture, Sugo Macaroni and Pizza Bar. They're still working on the menu, but "expect charcuterie, Italian cheeses, and pizzas from a wood-burning oven." The goal is a late summer opening. [Washingtonian]
ATLAS DISTRICT—The owner of Shawafel on H Street sends notice to PoP that he plans to open his Lebanese shawarma and falafel joint in late May or the first week of June. He shares some menu deets, and a little personal history (that includes working for José Andrés). [PoP]
COLUMBIA HEIGHTS—New Columbia Heights has an interview with the owner of Coffy Cafe, a coffee shop making its way to 14th Street. The hope is to open sometime this summer (likely later rather than sooner) and the decor will be that of a retro living room, complete with Barbarella posters. [NCH]
