DC's first kosher food truck only just launched on Friday, but already there's some debate as to whether it is kosher at all. The Vaad Harabanim of Greater Washington says that Sixth & Rye is not kosher — which Sixth & I Historic Synagogue director Esther Safran Foer explains is because the synagogue is renting the truck from someone who isn't Jewish and it will serve non-kosher food on the days of the week when it isn't home to the deli. But some local rabbis are speaking up in support of the Spike Mendelsohn-backed food truck, arguing that the Vaad is not the only word on keeping kosher. [WaPo]
