After a few hiccups this morning, Shelly Fireman's Roman-style pizza joint Fiorella Pizzeria e Caffé plans to open at 5 p.m. on the plaza of the National Harbor. The opening date was thrown up in the air this morning — one employee who answered the phone cited "quality control" reasons — but a later call confirmed that they'll be open tonight for dinner service and then regular hours starting tomorrow.
Fiorella's thin-crust pizzas include some traditional varieties — margherita, four cheese, sausage — but the expansive list also includes several pizzas that don't really sound like pizza: muffaletta (both vegan and not), chicken parm, bratwurst & Swiss and a nod to location with a Maryland blue crab pizza. Non-pizza dishes are fried chicken, lasagna and seafood stew. Fiorella's wine and beer selection will be available for take-out and delivery within the National Harbor area and, per a press release, pretty much the entire restaurant decor has been imported from La Spezia, Italy. The Fireman Hospitality Group also owns Bond 45 at the National Harbor, along with properties in New York and Dubai.
