ATLAS DISTRICT—We heard a few weeks ago that a Cajun-Creole restaurant named TruOrleans was on its way to H Street and today the owners have announced that we can expect to see it open at the end of this month. The two-level restaurant will have an open deck on the upper floor, sidewalk seating, early and late-night hours. Menu details are sketchy, but executive chef Andre Miller (previously of Ruth's Chris Steakhouse) definitely be serving beignets, po boys, gumbo, jambalaya and Hurricanes, like any good New Orleans-invoking establishment. The building will also be part art gallery featuring artists straight out of the French Quarter. [EaterWire]
CAPITOL HILL—Famous chef Eric Ripert is going to be in town tomorrow and you might even get to meet him. Ripert will be signing his recently published cookbook Avec Eric tomorrow at 6 p.m. at Hill's Kitchen in Eastern Market. So ditch those Cinco de Mayo plans already. [EaterWire]
BETHESDA—Freddy's Lobster and Clams has set its opening date for May 16, when it'll debut both its lunch and dinner services. [Twitter]
GEORGETOWN—Georgetown residents will be pleased to know that the shutter of the Mendocino Grille and Wine Bar was only temporary. Georgetown Patch reports that the restaurant's original owners have taken it back over and hope to re-open it in mid-June. DC's Office of Tax and Revenue revoked the M Street restaurant's sales tax certificate and liquor license back in February for failure to pay a whopping $80,000 in sales taxes. [Patch]
