Tim Carman steps in for Tom Sietsema in First Bite duties today, visiting Bethesda's newly opened Pizzeria da Marco. Carman notes some mixed reviews on Yelp and confirms that the pizza centers here are indeed pretty soupy. But once you get past the center, he says, it becomes clear these "are deeply flavorful pies." One thing that could use some work? The service — which Carman writes "ranged from friendly but sloppy (pizza and salad arrived simultaneously) to surly but efficient (the server's silence was creeping me out)." [WaPo]
