Fire Breaks Out At Georgetown's Hook, Damages Neighbors

New, 2 comments

Black smoke billowing over Georgetown this afternoon came from a fire at Hook, according to Twitter reports from the DC Fire and EMS, with the bulk of the fire knocked about 15-20 minutes after the firefighters' response. The good news is that there were no injuries and that and most of Hook's neighbors, including Georgetown Cupcake, are OK. The bad news is that neighboring Tackle Box and the Saloun have both suffered water and smoke damage.

Though there's no word yet on what started the fire, the City Paper talks to a rep for Hook, who says that this was not a kitchen fire, but rather one that started outside behind the seafood restaurant. The rep also reports that both Hook and Tackle Box will be closed for the rest of the day. Meanwhile, M Street remains partially closed, so drivers are advised to avoid the area.
