CAPITOL HILL—Ba Bay is going to be in the house at Ba Bay in about two weeks' time cooking up a special five-course traditional Vietnamese dinner. Owners Khoa and Denise Nguyen named their Capitol Hill restaurant after their grandmother, who happens to be in town for her 83rd birthday. And because everyone loves cooking five-course meals for 100 people on their birthday, she's taking over the restaurant's kitchen on July 24 for a $55 family-style meal. Seatings are at 5:30 and 8:30. Get your reservations at 202-547-1787. [EaterWire]
PALISADES—Someone tell Michelle Obama because on Wednesday Et Voila is offering up free fries in celebration of National Fry Day. Stop into the Belgian bistro for lunch or happy hour and you'll get a free order of frites and maybe even catch some fry-making demonstrations from chef Claudio Pirollo. And, if you can't make it in, lucky Twitter followers might win "Free Future Frite Certificates." [EaterWire]
U STREET—Attention Duffy's Irish Pub fans: You may now hang out there beyond 11:30 p.m. We Love DC reports that the Alcohol Beverage Control Board has voted to repeal the bar's voluntary agreement with its neighbors that forced it to close early on weeknights. [We Love DC]
