America Eats Tavern has only been open for a little more than two weeks, but it's already losing its head chef. Tom Sietsema reports that Richard Brandenburg is leaving the ThinkFoodGroup next month for a gig as director of culinary strategy for a real estate development company. Brandenburg was chef at the pop-up's predecessor Café Atlantico for three years, helped shape the idea for America Eats and worked to get it off the ground. He'll be staying in Washington and close to his old boss José Andrés, who he says "is part of my family."
There have also been a few other shuffles within the ThinkFoodGroup — Oyamel head chef Joe Raffa was promoted to culinary operations director for the whole restaurant group, and John Paul Damato will move from Jaleo's Bethesda outpost to replace him.
