Taylor Gourmet Guys Bringing Cheesesteaks To H Street

It was probably only a matter of time before Casey Patten and David Mazza decided to open a cheesesteak place and now it's official. The guys behind Taylor Gourmet's Philadelphia-style hoagies are bringing Taylor Charles Steak & Ice to life on H Street — about two blocks from the flagship Taylor Gourmet. The Post shadows Patten and Mazza on a recent trip to Philly intended for their bread-maker to get a feel for the kind of rolls they want to serve at the new place, a job that "is tantamount to hiring Daniel Boulud to prepare Kraft mac 'n' cheese."

So they'll be making their own rolls, but what else can we expect from the cheesesteak shop? Well, there will be Whiz. Taylor Gourmet's Facebook page confirms that very important fact and also explains the "ice" part of the name refers to Italian water ice. The shop will be selling that other Philly staple in seasonally rotating flavors.

The goal is to get Taylor Charles Steak & Ice open by late December in what is a pretty busy time for the Taylor Gourmet guys — they're also working on two more outposts of the original restaurant on 14th Street and in Merrifield.
