Well, that was fast. Chipotle opened the first-ever location of its new ShopHouse Southeast Asian Kitchen concept back in September, promising at the time that if all went well with the inaugural location they would soon expand the concept. Now with a few months — and critical approval — under their belt, looks like they're making good on that promise. Chipotle founder Steve Ells announced at a conference in Miami that a second ShopHouse location is already in the works somewhere near the original Dupont Circle location, according to Restaurant Finance Monitor reporter.
Eater reached out via email to Tim Wildin, Chipotle's director of concept development, who confirms it all:
We're planning to open another location in DC, but I don't have any additional details to share right at this time.
Meanwhile, a manager at the existing ShopHouse location in Dupont Circle tells Eater that she hadn't heard anything about the announcement, but notes that, "If Steve Ells is thinking about it, that probably means that things are going good here." So good, indeed, that can further expansion be far behind? After all, it was just earlier this month that Chipotle lawyers requested a New York restaurant by the name of Pure Thai Shophouse to change its name to Pure Thai Cookhouse. Hmm.
