EXPANSIONWIRE—The Washington Post reports that Austin's famous Alamo Drafthouse chain is bringing another location to the Washington area. While there's already one a little further afield in Winchester, now the chain says it will build a 34,000-square-foot complex near Dulles Airport. As at the other locations, there will be food, booze and this one will have eight screens. Projected opening is spring 2013. [WaPo]
POP-UPS—The Washingtonian visits Rogue 24 during Bryan Voltaggio's week of the Rogue Sessions pop-ups and assesses that as well as gives some insight in what to expect ahead. Most importantly, José Andrés is expected "to revive classic dishes from the Minibar menu" during his week in the kitchen. [The Washingtonian]
ALEXANDRIA—Restaurant Week is on its way out here in DC (except for those restaurants that have decided to extend it), but it's just getting underway in Alexandria. The Alexandria Restaurant Week starts today and ends on January 22. [Official Site]
SILVER SPRING—Saturday afternoon, Moorenko's will be offering free samples of the limited-time-only flavor that it has created in support of the Washington Animal Rescue League’s Project Rescue. The flavor is Bone Appetit — vanilla with swirls of peanut butter and chocolate covered pretzels — and the free samples will be available between 12 and 5 at the Silver Spring shop. The flavor, however, is available all month long. [EaterWire]
