Guide to Winter Cocktails; RJ Cooper Talks Hospital Food

BOOZE GUIDES—Refinery 29 has your guide for winter drinking, with a list of six winter-friendly drinks like mulled wine, the classic hot toddy and a mole-spiced adult hot chocolate found at Tryst. Helpfully, the website also lists restaurants where you can find these drinks. [Refinery 29]

GOOD NEWS—The Washington Post hears from Rogue 24 chef RJ Cooper that all went well with his open-heart surgery, but that hospital food blows. Cooper writes, "Through the dawn of time, food is supposed to comfort and bring joy, [nurture] the ailing, bring energy within the body and soul. Well, this has been forgotten and needs to be looked at." [WaPo]

FOOD TV—We Love DC reports that former 1789 chef Dan Giusti was on the Food Network's Chopped last night and made it to the final round, where he unfortunately ultimately lost on desserts. [We Love DC]

FALLS CHURCHNorthern Virginia Magazine checks in on 2941 in Falls Church as it nears the end of its renovation project. Chef Bertrand Chemel's new intended menu is going even more locally sourced and some of the old tasting menu dishes will make it to the new a la carte menu. There are also pictures. [NVM]
