Executive chef David Ashwell has officially parted ways with Le Zinc, the French bistro he helped open just this past summer in Cleveland Park. Co-owner John Warner writes in about the split, which was an amicable one — upon the birth of their second son, Ashwell and family have relocated to his wife's native Northern Ireland. Writes Warner:
"We wish David well in his new life and thank him for his considerable contributions to our successful launch last July."
Taking over as executive chef is Janis McLean, who comes to Le Zinc by way of 15ria in the Dupont Circle area. McLean was also previously executive chef at the Morrison-Clark Inn. She's taking over a kitchen that had a rocky start with a one-spot from Washington Post critic Tom Sietsema, but just this month landed in the Washingtonian's top 100 list with two stars praising its "straightforward but soulful bistro fare."
