Today, Google announced the launch of its Yelp-like Google Places site for the Washington area, kind of a companion to the Groupon-like Google Offers. The site's new community manager writes that the goal is "to highlight the local places, the neighborhood haunts, the foodie havens, the dive bars, and the spots that make our city great to live, work and thrive in."
