This morning, Prince of Petworth reported in with the scoop that U Street stalwart Solly's Tavern will soon be expanding into the Ethiopian restaurant space next door and — wait for it — begin serving food. Owner John Solomon tells PoP only a little bit about the plans, namely that the renovation should take a month and could perhaps be completed by the end of February. There's no word on who might helm the kitchen, what the menu would look like and whether the bar will continue to allow patrons to bring in their own food, which, presumably not. Eater has reached out for more on that.
Meanwhile, what will become of Madjet, the Ethiopian restaurant that would be displaced? An employee who answered the phone at the still-open Madjet said he had no knowledge of Solly's expansion plans and so couldn't say what might be in store there. We'll keep you posted.
