Fojol Bros. Launch New Truck; Starbucks Raises Prices

New, 1 comment

FOOD TRUCKS—This morning, the Fojol Bros. launched a new Thai-themed truck to join the ranks of its Indian and Ethiopian-inspired trucks. The Washingtonian stops by to check out Volathai, whose menu includes things like pad thai, drunken noodles and a couple kinds of curry. [The Washingtonian]

'BUCKSWIRE—Eater National bears the crushing news that Starbucks has hiked its prices in DC and elsewhere — to the tune of "an average of 1% across the Northeast and the Sun Belt, affecting New York, Boston, Washington, Atlanta, Dallas and Albuquerque." In New York, a tall coffee costs 10 cents more now. Monsters. [Eater National]

AWARDS SEASON—The Washington Post announced the winners of its DC Tweeps contest today and a bunch of food people made the cut as "the city’s best tweeters." The Red Hook Lobster Pound took best food truck, Bitches Who Brunch won favorite foodie, José Andrés won (surprise!) favorite restaurateur and DC Central Kitchen's chef Allison Sosna was named favorite activist. PENN QUARTER—People love them some white truffles, but they can get a little bit pricey. So tonight and continuing as long as they have the Bianchetto truffles in stock, Fiola is offering these at cost — which will still be pricey as they "will start from approximately $62 per 28 grams," per a press release. But you'll get to pick your own truffle and the restaurant is providing truffle slicers, too, for people who like to play with kitchen gadgets. [EaterWire]
