Malmaison Aims for "Paris Meets Meatpacking District"

Photo: Washington Harbour

The Georgetown waterfront has always been more about the views than the food, but it looks like that could be beginning to change. Fresh off the news of Fabio Trabocchi's project there, Best Bites catches up with Omar Popal, whose family plans to open Malmaison in a 4,200 square foot space at 3401 Water St. The family, who also own Cafe Bonaparte and Napoleon, have been pretty hush-hush about the project until now, and they're still not saying a ton.

What we do know, thanks to Best Bites: The restaurant's name comes from Napoleon's country house with his first wife. There will be both a restaurant and a pastry shop under the same roof. The restaurant will be French and the space ("Paris meets the Meatpacking District, Popal says) is being designed by local firm Grizform. A chef announcement is coming soon.

Washington Harbour will also see the bigger and better reopening of what has been rechristened Farmers Fishers Bakers come November.
