1) Tenleytown: Not only is Cava Grill opening its fourth DC-area location in Tenleytown today, but they're also offering a free pita, bowl, salad, or minis and a fountain drink to customers between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. today. Only at the new location, this Free Lunch Day will include samples of Honest Tea while Cava solicits donations to Micro Greens DC, an organization that teaches underprivileged children how to cook healthy meals. This Cava Grill outpost features outdoor deck seating, and it will have a liquor license to serve beer and wine. Status: Certified Open. 4237 Wisconsin Ave NW; website

2) Adams Morgan: You may want to hold off a few days on visiting, but the new Adams Morgan outlet of the Döner Bistro is very softly open for business. The signature beef and chicken döner kebabs from the original Leesburg location are available now, as well as the bratwurst, currywurst, pretzels and salads, but an employee explains they're still waiting on a liquor license — perhaps coming later today. Further, the store needs a replacement part for its fryer, so none of the fried items on the menu are available quite yet. Status: Very softly open. 1654 Columbia Road NW; website

3) Fairfax: Denver-based burger chain Smashburger is officially open for business out in Fairfax offering its signature Angus burgers that are smashed (duh) on a flat grill. The chain has created the Capital Burger and Chicken Sandwich for the DC market specifically that offers a choice of beef or chicken with "grilled onions, aged Swiss cheese, baby arugula, apple wood smoked bacon, tomatoes and mayo on a brioche bun." There are also hot dogs, salads, fries, fried pickles, beer, wine, milkshakes and more. Status: Certified open. 10160 Fairfax Blvd, Fairfax; website

4) Crystal City: Local chain California Tortilla unveiled its newest location in Crystal City yesterday, one of the first DC-area locations to make use of the chain's rebranding. Beyond new colors and logo, that rebranding involves "an exhibition kitchen, revamped Wall of Flame and open assembly line," according to a press release. Status: Certified open. 2450 Crystal Drive, Arlington; website

5) Bethesda: In other California Tortilla news, Patch has it that the chain has opened at its new Bethesda location with the rebranding in full effect as well. This location will celebrate its grand opening with free burrito day on October 9. Status: Certified open. 4871 Cordell Avenue, Bethesda; website
