Room 11 in Columbia Heights has always been known for being cozy. But even as it prepares to open up its 18-seat expansion (six seats at the bar, and six two-tops) in the adjoining building on November 17 at 8 am, the place still maintains the warm, simple charm it's always had.
The new room introduces an additional concept —a Euro-style cafe with an all-day coffee bar, brewing beans from Annapolis-based Ceremony Coffee. Service will kick off with a limited takeout-oriented breakfast and lunch menu, which they plan to bulk up eventually. You'll also be able to grab a pastry for a snack or order cakes, pies and cookies made by long-time, in-house pastry chef Lizzy Evelyn, who has consolidated her business Paisley Fig with Room 11.
Transitioning into night, the second bar will feature a drinks list heavy on aperitif and digestif, with a particular focus on amaro. Want a drink from the menu of the other half of the restaurant? You can order a drink from either menu, regardless of where you are sitting. You'll also find updated menus from new chef Adam Howard, an alumnus of Family Meal, who joined Room 11 earlier this month. New dishes include a chicken pot pie fritter with pickled watermelon rind, pickled okra, and pickled green tomatoes as well as farro topped with cockscomb and chicken butt.
