New gourmet doughnut shop District Doughnut is currently negotiating a lease in Chinatown for an anticipated May 1 opening, according to District Doughnut's CEO Juan Pablo Segura. Segura manned a booth at this weekend's Metro Cooking and Entertaining Show, passing out hundreds of doughnut samples and spreading the word about their store's focus on doughnuts with unique flavors like cannoli, dulce de leche, and peanut butter and jelly.
And to ease the guilt factor that some may associate with doughnut consumption, Segura stressed that executive pastry chef Christine Schaefer's creations will be smaller than chain doughnuts and feature all natural, local ingredients. "You shouldn't feel guilty about eating a doughnut," Segura said.
The shop will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and fans will help select a doughnut flavor each month. Segura also plans to donate a percentage of revenue to local charities.
