The doughnut face-off continues. Pastry anticipation is fueling the latest restaurant trend: doughnut pop-up restaurants. Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken is the latest to throw one. The restaurant from Jason Gehring and Elliot Spaisman (coming to Metro Center) will host a doughnut pop-up on Dec. 20 and 21 at Chinatown Coffee Co., before the restaurant opens in January.
Astro is the second doughnut pop-up we've seen recently — GBD's Tiffany MacIssac did a pop-up event in November in conjunction with retail shop Salt & Sundry at Union Market showcasing her own doughnut varieties. Both restaurants, though, are still keeping the public in suspense when it comes to their fried chicken.
Astro will have different varieties available each day, including holiday specials such as an eggnog cake donut. Chinatown Coffee's a frequent partner with restaurants, often hosting food truck happy hours at the locations.
