Farmers Fishers Bakers opened in the former Farmers & Fishers space at Washington Harbour about three weeks ago. Though it's the same ownership group as the former restaurant, which closed due to flooding, what came after it is a whole new concept with a sushi bar, an elaborate design scheme and a pantry within the walls of the restaurant. But does the food measure up to the decor? Here's the early talk about Farmers Fishers Bakers from bloggers, Yelpers, student critics and more.
The Constructive Criticism News: Mark Silverberg on Facebook thought his brunch was super filling but told the restaurant they should consider potato-filled breakfast tacos, adding fruit salad and a less messy grapefruit option. [Facebook]
The ZOMG Fried Chicken News: Ben Jack, also on Facebook, said he experienced the "best brunch buffet I have ever even heard about, let alone experienced. Seriously, the best fried chicken in the whole world." [Facebook]
The Student Newspaper News, Part 1: The GW Hatchet critic said the experience at FFB was "unlike any I've had at Founding Farmers," giving props to such selections as the Ahi tuna sandwich and the whitefish sliders. [Hatchet]
The Student Newspaper News, Part 2: The Georgetown Voice was particularly impressed with the sushi bar, but warns about pricing: "this would probably best be left for a parental visit." [Voice]
The Sweet Bathroom News: A blog called Life After Swimming stops by for a first visit, and has a pleasant experience. "I love the freshness of the ingredients and the restaurant itself was welcoming and unique. Even the bathroom was pretty awesome." [Life After Swimming]
The Where Are My Pretzels News: A blog Caypo is bummed they're out of the brick oven pretzels with pimento cheese, but likes what they ended up with. "New diners and the regulars from Founding Farmers will be equally pleased by the depth of flavor, incredible color, and truly creative twist on classic dishes and those new inspirations found nowhere else but at FFBs." [Caypo]
The Long Wait on Thanksgiving News: Farmers Fishers Bakers is tracking at a 3 Star Rating on Yelp, with 37 reviews already filed. One is from Dan. F, who had to wait for 30 minutes on Thanksgiving before his party was seated. "There was never an apology, there was never an offer of at least a drink at the bar. No explanation. We had made this reservation weeks ago on opentable. I have read reviews in the past of places where the reviewer seems indignant the restaurant was unable to seat their party of 20 with 1 hour notice. I hope to clarify this was just 3 people, with a reservation made weeks in advance." [Yelp]
The Existential Questions News: Bryan S.'s review is part synopsis, part scolding of himself. "Why do I do this to myself? Why do I eat in Georgetown? I do want to give credit to the bartenders who make a good range of tiki drinks. Apart from that a highly underwhelming experience." [Yelp]
The Bad-Ass Buffet News: Count Judson W. as a fan of the breakfast buffet. "Such a variety! My favorites were definitely the breakfast jambalaya and the bread pudding French toast...A guacamole and salad station were just the cherries on top. If you have any room for dessert, several kinds of pie slices are up for grabs." [Yelp]
