Last night, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama were among the masses of people trying to score a table at a satisfactorily romantic restaurant. And because they are the President and First Lady, they scored well with a table at the excellent Old Town Alexandria restaurant Vermilion helmed by chef Anthony Chittum. According to a White House press pool report, the couple left the White House at 7 p.m. for Old Town with the president reportedly "not wearing a tie."
As usual for these things, a rep for the restaurant group declined to give any details about the dinner, but noted that "Chef Chittum and the entire Vermilion staff were incredibly honored to host the President & First Lady for a Valentine's dinner." But given the restaurant's emphasis on local, seasonal produce, this was probably a solid pick for known "vegetable enthusiast" Michelle Obama. Meanwhile, pastry chef Tiffany MacIsaac wondered aloud on Twitter which dessert they had — passion fruit or chocolate?
