Robert Wiedmaier to Open Wildwood Kitchen in Bethesda

Chef and empire-builder Robert Wiedmaier revealed back in November that he was plotting another venture in Bethesda, and today Carole Sugarman over at Bethesda Magazine has the full scoop: Wiedmaier's new project will be named Wildwood Kitchen and will be housed in the former Jean-Michel space of the Wildwood Shopping Center. The menu will Mediterranean, wine-focused and healthy: "That means no butter sauces or cream, and lots of olive oil, vegetables and fish. Think diver scallops with thyme and garlic, and grilled sardines over ratatouille."

Among other tidbits Wiedmaier tells Sugarman: his sous chef from Marcel's will move over to helm the new restaurant, he's offering some his longtime staffers part ownership and the aim is to open in late summer or early fall.

So what's the count on this burgeoning Robert Wiedmaier empire? Well, he's got Marcel's, Brasserie Beck, Brabo, Mussel Bar and the forthcoming Mussel Bar spinoff at the Revel resort in Atlantic City. Add in Wildwood Kitchen, plus the restaurant that former Blue Duck Tavern chef Brian McBride will be leading for the restaurant group slated for 2013. And, you know, who knows what else.
