The DC area is home to a lot of restaurants, and among them are hidden gems that many Washingtonians aren't unearthing. To help guide us to these potential discoveries, we've enlisted some of our city's many food players to share with us their under the radar recommendations for Dining Confidential.
Chances are we'll never be privy to the secrets behind Hill Country's smokey, succulent meat but lucky for us Pit Master and Director of DC Operations Jim Foss is willing to divulge where he goes for authentic Mexican food.
"My favorite place to go for great casual Mexican food is Mixtec located in Adams Morgan. I always go for the Beef Tacos, Margaritas, and Menudo (Tripe Soup) with a huge plate of condiments to add to it. To me it's the most authentic Mexican joint in DC.
A good friend and mentor Paul Cohn was the person that brought me there almost 12 years ago and have been a regular ever since. Pepe the owner always treats his guests as though they are family making always everyone feel special. If you like REAL Mexican food you can't miss Mixtec."
