Boundary Road, the newest bar and restaurant to line up the fledging west end of H Street NE, opened only a few weeks ago, but chef/owner Brad Walker's neighborhood restaurant has already received wide acclaim about its decor, the food, drinks, happy hour offerings and its place in the neighborhood. But does it live up to the neighborhood's great anticipation? Here's the early word:

The Good News: All the check-ins on Foursquare gave Boundary Road glowing reviews, particularly for the drinks. [Foursquare]

The Good Addition to the Neighborhood News: The restaurant is clearly a welcomed addition on this side of H Street. One Yelp reviewer said it "eschews the upscale but impersonal and almost corporate feel of most restaurants in DC and instead truly feels like a neighborhood joint...and it's practically right in my backyard!" [Yelp]

The Good Food News: Urbanspoon reviews include raves about the hangar steak, calling it "superb" and "a unique insight into a chef who has crafted his trade at Proof, Cashion's and Fiola." [Urbanspoon]

The Good Cocktail News: Going Out Guru Fritz Hahn recommends its short, but tasty cocktail list, calling it "reasonably priced and worth exploring." Drinks he highlighted were the "glamorous" I'm Thinking about Getting a Vespa and the "crisp" Praha City Represent. [Washington Post]

The Good Happy Hour News: The Going Out Gurus also anointed Boundary Road's night-owl drink specials as one of the best late-night happy hours. From 11 p.m. to last call, the discounted menu is especially great for those who can't always get out of work early enough to make the regular evening specials. [Washington Post]

The Tepid Food News: One diner enjoyed the service, but said that the food could use improvement: "I'm not sure how you elevate rustic food, but the chicken needs to somehow be better than the chicken I can make at home." [Yelp]

The Bad Food News: While early reviews of the restaurant have been positive, there have been a few hiccups: "My complaint is the food: it's mediocre. We started with cold bread, which I expected to be warm because it was wrapped in a basket of linens. Next up we tried the pierogies (anemic, anorexic, too skinny). For the main dish we had the lamb shoulder (rough, chewy meat); this came with excellent mashed potatoes though." [Yelp]

The Great News: A married Yelp reviewer wrote he "definitely fell hard for Boundary Road" when he and his wife went on Valentine's Day. [Yelp]
