When the owners of Ben's Chili Bowl signed a lease on H Street NE back in October, it wasn't clear that the space would become another location for the iconic restaurant — owners said they were still debating the right concept for the neighborhood. Well, based upon reports from an Advisory Neighborhood Committee meeting last night, Ben's Chili Bowl has decided that its original concept is what's right for the space.
Neighborhood activist Margaret Holwill was on hand for the meeting and live-tweeted a whole bunch of key details: the first level of the building will be for Ben's Chili Bowl and will not serve alcohol. The second level will have an undetermined menu that will not be the same as Ben's Next Door. It will also have an "open kitchen with seating/bar." No word yet on when it might open, as Holwill notes that they're still working on architectural plans.
