A couple of weeks ago we gave you a peek inside and now see Roberto Donna's latest kitchen in person as La Forchetta opens to the public today at 5 p.m. The longtime Washington chef head-faked a move to Arizona a little while back only to be lured back by La Forchetta owner Hakan Ilhan — who promised Donna would have nothing to do with the financial side of the restaurant. Ilhan is also the man behind the local Pizza Autentica chain.
But it is Donna's menu here, so while you can expect his signature pastas and other dishes from the Galileo heydays, there's also going to be an emphasis on the pizza coming from that woodstone pizza oven in the center of the restaurant. The restaurant is open for dinner only this week, but the plan is to open for lunch on April 9 and then brunch sometime thereafter.
