The rumors over the fate of Tackle Box in Cleveland Park have been swirling for awhile now and just last week Cleveland Parker speculated that Floriana owner Dino Tapper would be taking over the space. Well, indeed, Washington Post critic Tom Sietsema tweeted this afternoon and an Eater source confirms that Tapper does plan to take over the space and open a tapas bar named Pulpo. The switchover would occur as of May 7, just after the Bandolero preview finishes its course in the Cleveland Park space.
The Cleveland Park outpost of Tackle Box has not even been open for a year — it opened in June of last year. The original Georgetown location reopened in November after a fire forced it to shutter last year, also in June. For the sake of thorough historical documentation, let's recall that sister restaurant Hook did not reopen after the fire and will instead be transformed into Bandolero. So a lot of activity in the last year for owner Jonathan Umbel.
Eater has reached out to Umbel for more information about his plans. Also, more details on this tapas bar Pulpo when they are available. In the meantime, here's José Andrés' take: "Alright! TApas Tapas Tapas.....Is DC becoming the Tapa Capital of USA?"
