It's been a rough year for restaurateur Michael Sternberg out in Clarendon. Back in October, he split from the national hospitality company that ran Harry's Tap Room, then reopened several weeks later as Market Tavern. And now, according to ARLnow, he has shuttered the doors on the space for good.
Apparently the renovations busted the budget and didn't help bring in diners as Sternberg had expected, as he tells ARLnow, “I liked the service, I liked the food, I liked the decor, and I don’t know why we didn’t catch on in this neighborhood. I spend my nights awake just wondering about it."
Sad. Well, last night was the final night for Market Tavern and the restaurant space already has new — unidentified — owners. But they are reportedly "local, well-established restaurateurs." So we shall see.
