Esquire's John Mariani offers his predictions for the James Beard Awards, which are on Monday. On best Mid-Atlantic chef: "Cathal Armstrong is the best known of the crowd, with several restaurants well-regarded in the D.C. area. ... Pastan at Obelisk hasn't evolved much in the last decade. Vikram Sunderam, however, deserves the award for running the finest Indian restaurant in America." He also prefers Fiola for best new restaurant, but puts his money on New York's Tertulia. [Esquire]
