Bad news for anyone who hoped to spend a possibly rainy Cinco de Mayo hanging out in a former parking lot filled with 80 tons of sand, a mariachi band, cheap beer and rum punch. New York Avenue Beach Bar owner Robert Bailey tells Eater that while the bar is "progressing well towards an opening later this month," it will not open for Cinco de Mayo this weekend as originally hoped.
The owners were slated to take over the space yesterday and, as of this afternoon, the sand had not yet been imported. But there is some signage up. Stay tuned for obsessive coverage of the buildout and, as always, please send in tips and pictures if you see any beach-related action going on in the space.
