Last month, rumors surfaced that Richard Sandoval might be opening another restaurant in DC, with word of a Peruvian restaurant in Shaw. Well, you can cross out Peruvian and put a question mark on Shaw. Sandoval confirms to Eater that he's planning to bring Toro Toro, his pan-Latin Dubai restaurant, to DC next year. The Sandoval team hasn't signed a lease yet, though the restaurateur said that could happen as soon as in the next month. So no hints on where that would be.
And just what is Toro Toro going to be like? Sandoval explains:
"That restaurant just got voted best new restaurant in Dubai. It's a big restaurant. It has a few components. It's pan-Latin, so flavors of South and Central America. And then you have the steak component with the churrascaria. And then it has the lounge component to it, too. So you can go have dinner — have small plates, have meat — and then you go upstairs to the lounge to wrap up your night with caipirinhas, piscos, margaritas."
The restaurant would join Sandoval's other DC concepts, including Zengo, Masa 14 and El Centro, which opened last summer. The space they're considering is about 13,000 square feet and wouldn't open until next year. Sandoval also notes that his team is averaging four or five restaurant openings a year internationally.
