Construction seems barely underway at much-anticipated izakaya and ramen shop Daikaya, but its owners are already planning to hit Washington with another big one: a Japanese cocktail bar. The City Paper brings the news that Daisuke Utagawa and Katsuya Fukushima have taken over the basement space underneath Fuel, where they'll open a mysterious Japanese cocktail bar. There will be a menu that consists of "Japanese snacks that accompany drinking," but other than that it seems the team hasn't ironed out any details on the place — no name, nothing on what kinds of Japanese snacks that accompany drinking. But Utagawa explains that it'll be "like a little brother to Daikaya."
There's also no projected opening date for the bar, though given the moving target that has been Daikaya — which is now seeing movement a year and a half after the restaurant was first announced — not announcing a date is probably wise.
