Here's the good news: Bryan Voltaggio officially opens his diner Family Meal tomorrow night out in Frederick, Md. As for the bad news? Well, it'll be open for dinner service only for the first couple of weeks before expanding to the full breakfast, lunch and dinner schedule on July 7.
Set in what was once a Frederick car dealership, Family Meal is Voltaggio's interpretation of the traditional American diner. As such, the emphasis here is on the counter seating — featuring the biggest countertop Voltaggio could possibly find — plus a little something for everybody on the menu so as to encourage families to be able to come in and hang out for just about any meal of the day. The menu isn't available yet, but as Voltaggio said when Eater got a look inside last week, diners can expect things like fried chicken, meatloaf, pork chops, seared whole fish, and an emphasis on local produce.
UPDATE 6/23: Unfortunately, the Family Meal team reports on Saturday morning that "due to construction issues" they've decided to delay the opening until further notice.
